The Gasman in his own words:

“I was born in 1976 and grew up mainly listening to cliff and elvis until i got a radio of my own. Then I got into taping synth pop music off the radio and prolonging the good bits using the tape to tape function on my cassette recorder, bits that I felt didn’t go on for long enough.

Then I started playing chords over the top to make it more exciting/satisfying, almost turning them into my own bits of music.

Then, using bluetack – started making records jump whilst playing chords over the top using the pause button to edit and make tracks.

Then at the age of 17 I was lent a yamaha keyboard that let you program melodies and I started making stuff incorporating records tapes and the yamaha.

Soon after I found an old Grundig reel to reel player and about 50 reels containing loads of old classical music and for ages after I went through them cutting out sections I liked and made tape loops from to use with every thing else.

In 1998 a friend built me my first PC out of his old scraps and another friend installed 2 programs on it one being Soundforge and the other was Acid. I’ve been using these programs ever since.”
